Truth Cannot Contradict Truth: The Logic of God

Every true statement—divine or human—will ultimately fit into the grand tapestry of God’s unbroken truth.

Harmony of Divine Coherence

What to Remember Today:

Any true statement—divine or human—will ultimately fit into the grand tapestry of God’s unbroken truth.

Today’s Word

For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.

— 1 Corinthians 14:33 (ESV)

Opening Story

In a bustling symphony hall, the conductor lifts his baton. Violins, winds, and percussion wait in silence. At his cue, they play together—each note perfectly timed, each instrument in harmony. Though dozens of parts join, no two notes clash; every sound builds upon the others.

So it is with God’s truth. Just as discordant notes reveal a mistake in the score, true logic springs from a Composer whose wisdom never contradicts itself.

Devotional Reflection

  1. Philosophical Principle
    • The Law of Non-Contradiction holds that a proposition and its negation cannot both be true in the same respect at the same time. It’s the bedrock of coherent thought—without it, reasoning unravels into chaos.
  2. Theological Foundation
    • Scripture assumes coherence. Revelation after revelation doesn’t conflict but clarifies. God’s character—holy, just, loving—harmony of attributes that never contradict. Even the tension between justice and mercy flows from His unified nature, not from competing wills.
  3. Living in Coherence
    • When you encounter conflicting claims—whether in theology, ethics, or culture—pause and test for hidden assumptions, incomplete perspectives, or misapplied contexts. True convictions will align under the umbrella of God’s consistent character.

Socratic Prompt:

“Where in my life have I accepted two contradictory beliefs? What would it look like to reconcile them under the coherent character of God?”

Wordsmith Corner

  • Law of Non-Contradiction: A fundamental axiom of logic stating that contradictory propositions cannot both be true in the same sense at the same time.

In Today’s World

  • Post-Truth Culture: We often hear “what’s true for you may not be true for me.” But spiritual and moral relativism leads to fractured societies and confused consciences. Upholding coherence reflects God’s unchanging, unified truth.

Counterfeit Versions

Shadow ApproachCoherent Truth
Relativism: “My truth, your truth.”Absolute Grounding: One divine Truth undergirds all.
Selective Interpretation: Quoting Scripture out of context to justify opposing views.Contextual Wholeness: Letting Scripture interpret Scripture.
Cognitive Dissonance: Holding irreconcilable ideas side by side.Harmonized Belief: Aligning all thoughts to Christ.

Prayer Prompt

“God of perfect harmony, forgive me for the contradictions in my beliefs and actions. Align my mind with Your unified truth. Grant me clarity to see when I’ve let confusion creep in, and the courage to correct my course. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Spiritual Exercise

  1. Truth Audit
    • Identify two beliefs you hold that seem at odds. For each:
      • Examine their sources—why do you believe them?
      • Test them against Scripture’s broader narrative.
      • Journal how you can bring them into coherence under God’s revealed character.
  2. Contextual Study
    • Choose a familiar Bible verse you’ve memorized. Read its surrounding chapters. Note any nuance or deeper meaning that harmonizes apparent tensions.

For Deeper Digging

  • Group Discussion:
    1. Can you recall a cultural or theological debate where Scripture’s coherence provided resolution?
    2. How might you gently guide someone whose worldview tolerates contradiction?
